Action Potential Propagation

چکیده
In the previous notes, we described the action potential for a “point” cell, so that we could use an ODE model. Here, we consider propagation of the action potential along an axon. Consider a system in which the intracellular and extracellular spaces are separated by a cell membrane. Let x be the one-dimensional spatial coordinate, and consider current conservation in the intracellular region corresponding to x0 < x < x0 + ∆x. Let ii be the electrical current density flowing in the intracellular region. We have:

The Different Mechanisms of Action Potential Propagation in the Heart
It was thought previously that cardiac muscle gap junctions provide low-resistance connections between cells and permit the local-circuit current to flow. Some evidences show that myocardial cells may not require low-resistance connections for successful propagation of the action potential (AP). It seems that some other types of mechanisms must be involved in AP propagation. In this article, we...

متن کاملA new reduced mathematical model to simulate the action potential in end plate of skeletal muscle fibers
Usually mathematicians use Hodgkin-Huxley model or FitzHug-Nagumo model to simulate action potentials of skeletal muscle fibers. These models are electrically excitable, but skeletal muscle fibers are stimulated chemically. To investigate skeletal muscle fibers we use a model with six ordinary differential equations. This dynamical system is sensitive to initial value of some variables so it is...
متن کاملInfluence of a perfusing bath on the foot of the cardiac action potential.
Recently, Spach et al (Circ Res. 1998;83:1144-1164) measured the transmembrane action potential 150 to 200 microm below the tissue surface during longitudinal and transverse propagation. They found that "during longitudinal propagation there was initial slowing of V(m) [action potential] foot that resulted in deviations from a simple exponential. " (p 1144). They attributed this behavior to the...
متن کاملSimulation of the Wave of Action Potential Propagation over the Length of the Axon at Various Times by Comsol Multiphysics Software
In this study, simulation of Fitzhugh nagumo model in order to generation and propagation of the wave of action potential over the length the of the squid giant axon and survey the passage of time effect in wave propagation have been explored. Simulation has been performed by using the Comsol Multiphysics 3.5 a software. So that, in this simulation, squid giant axon is intended to form hollow c...
